About Your Instructor

Carrie Weston is a Michigan born and raised photographer, currently living in Fridley, MN.  She is happy to sahre her love and knowledge of photography as an instructor through  Fridley Community Education.

Says Carrie:

"Always an avid amateur photographer, I learned the ropes of professional photography first as a Reporter/Photographer for a small community newspaper- working under tight deadlines and a tight budget.  During my time working this gig I got to do adventurous things like tromp through muddy fields to get photographs of oxen, and had the once in a lifetime honor of covering a former President's State Funeral.

A few years and a few major life changes later (namely marriage, moving several states away, and having my wonderful son) I found myself working in the field of online journalism as well as selling some stock, photographic prints and product photos I found myself wanting to have greater creative opportunities and greater control over my own business, thus was born Carrie Weston Photography

I believe that many people are intimidated by the field of photography and of all of the buttons and settings, so much so that they may never venture out of their camera's automatic settings.  I try to use accessible language and practical at home assignments and experiments to increase your confidence and creativity.

And remember- your camera can do a lot, but your camera is not smarter than you.  You have to be the boss!"
